The 2008 Lions are a study in futility. Consider some of these numbers:

The 0-11 Lions have lost only one game by less than 3 points; a contest decided by a safety in which their quarterback inexplicably stepped out of the end zone while rolling out for a pass in the first half.
The Lions are ranked dead last in the league in total defense, giving up 31.5 points per game.
The Lions are ranked dead last in the league in rushing defense, giving up 166.7 rushing yards per game.
The Lions are dead last in the league in interceptions, with just two the entire year.
The Lions are among the bottom five teams in the league in scoring offense (17.5 points per game), total yardage (270 yards per game), rushing offense (83.4 yards per game), first downs (14.6 per game) and time of possession.

Home Game 5: Believe in Losing

Up 17 to 0, the Lions then go on to get shelled by the Bucs.

Tailgate: Jeff's Jerk Chicken was outstanding. We ate like Kings, and slept like Lions.

Home Game 3: Believe In Losing

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0cP9PvxawcE/SQT8ZW1GkEI/AAAAAAAALK8/mcYsARw5qg4/s400/jersey.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261607777230819394" />

Proby donated the great jerseys.

Dearborn Ham provided the ham.

All the carb fixins, cinnamon roll shots, apple pie, and pumpkin crisp was mucho delicio.

Oh, and Eric got his car stolen.

Home Game 2: Believe in Trash

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0cP9PvxawcE/SOlo9cLw3aI/AAAAAAAALIc/BstM-qSrLuc/s320/IMG_4439.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253845845051235746" />
Lions 7
Bears 34

The Bears could have easily had 3 more touchdowns. Great news you say? Well it sure ain't bad news, but great news? Hardly. The damage has been done, and will continue to be here for at least 3 more seasons. However that alone rests on the hope that the new regime will be better (how could it not be???) and improve things. The issue is, the team is still owned by the old man, and he runs the place.

Whomever they bring in, will have a mountain of work to accomplish. The pressure is on. Only time will tell. Afterall, when it comes the Lions, our beloved Motor City Kitties..all we have is time. Hope showed up today for a second, as the Lion nation smirked for the first time in many years.

The old man?

Detroit Lions vice chairman Bill Ford Jr., at a Detroit Economic Club event Monday, had this to say in response to a reporter’s question about the Lions game on Sunday:

“It was an embarrassment, the fans deserve better, and if I had the authority, I would have fired the general manager,” Matt Millen, Ford said.

When asked again a few minutes later if he would fire Millen, he said, “Yes, but I don’t have that authority.”

The Lions are 0-3. During the early part of Millen's tenure (2001-2003), the Lions failed to win a road game for three years (0-24) before opening the season with a win at the Chicago Bears in 2004. Overall, the Lions are 8-48 on the road since 2001.[5] Millen himself admitted to an interviewer in 2008 that the team's record under his leadership has been "beyond awful". Lions win 25 to 20, no one cares. Except for this punk 29 year old sitting behind me who got into our face for not cheering the team on. We said the game doesn't matter. He said it did. We said they weren't in the playoffs. He said that doesn't matter. We said, that's all that matters! He said why were you even here??? Listen pal, I've been to 48 games in a row, and 55 of 56 in the last 7 years so blow me!

Anyways, thank God for cell phones with Internet...so I can text, and get fantasy football scores. It makes the game much more bearable.

The Tailgate: Food was good per usual, but the weather conditions make it a bit uncomfortable. First rain...then gusty winds. Deep Frying the turkey became a chore. The wind blew the tarps off and the table over. It got to be too much so we took the tent down and just froze instead. I made the yams, and they were good. I am yam what I yam! White Castle stuffing I heard was good, but I'll never touch the stuff. I get sick just driving by the place. Some good dips, and the fries were very tasty. Cranberries, pumpkin and pecan pie touched it off for the season finally.

We didn't get to have our meeting as planned, because we were scrambling left and right...but some thoughts were presented. We'll have to meet again soon and begin discussions on the future. I am thinking no one feels exactly about things the way I do. Eric and Seb come close, but the others are much more optimistic. Again, 48 games in a row...that is alot of losing. I think it has effected my overall mental well being. How could it not? If anything it proves I'm probably stupid.

Latest photos: http://flickr.com/photos/hockeydino/sets/72157594362838061/

2008 Schedule

HOME AWAY

GREEN BAY GREEN BAY

CHICAGO CHICAGO

MINNESOTA MINNESOTA

NEW ORLEANS ATLANTA

TAMPA BAY CAROLINA

JACKSONVILLE HOUSTON

TENNESSEE INDIANAPOLIS

NFC EAST TEAM(TBD) NFC WEST TEAM (TBD)

LET THE PREDICTIONS BEGIN
JACKSONVILLE or TENNESSEE will be the THANKSGIVING GAME

GAME 7 Lions vs. Cowboys

How bout dem Cowboys? Well the Lions offense played good for the first time in a loooong time. However it was not enough. Why? Because their special teams is horrendous, their kicker is a washed up has-been, their Tampa-2 defense gives up 8 yards on every screen play. It's that simple.

I'm tired of it. I am very tired of it. Sure the Cowboys are the better team. However this is the NFL, and if you play well you can win. The Lions did not play well on defense when they needed to and let game slip away. Not to let the offense off the hook totally, they could not convert a 4th and 1, and settled for a field goal. This to me was the turning point, more so than the has-been kicker missing a field goal.

They are now 6 and 7, and Jon Kitna's prediction of 10 wins is now officially history. My playoff beard continues to grow until they get officially eliminated.

The special teams gives up too many yards on kickoffs, they rarely have touchbacks, and they cannot tackle their own shadows. It was really sad. I would fire Stan Kwan on the spot if I owned the team. I need to own the team already!

The tailgate was wet, and cold. The first rain we have ever experienced in 7 years at Ford Field. We love Jeff's meat. It was very tasty and filling. Nice job on the slaw, and the rice whatever was pretty good too. No Pope or Ed on this tourney, but still a good time considering the conditions.

This is Jason growing his playoff beard. If you ask me, an easy victory handed to them by inept play calling, poor quarterbacking, and as usual poor coaching. 3 quarters the game was a complete snoozer, then the Lions tried to mount a comeback, but it was too little too late.

I've left many games in disgust over the years, many games just depressed or shaking my head. But this game really left me mad. Mad as hell. What a complete and utter joke. What topped it off was the Lions giving the Giants a field goal rather than getting better field position and a chance to get the ball back. However even more signficant was throwing a bomb to midget Shaun MacDonald when your 2 giant wide outs are nowhere to be found! - interception.

The fact is, it is the NFL and any team can win on any given Sunday. However when it comes to worst franchise in sports, the odds are usually against them. This is not to take away their 6 wins, but we all knew it was a fraud. They still have a chance, but now it is even more slim to make the playoffs...but our hopes if any are dwindling by the day. I wouldnt even call it a hope, it was more of a "maybe".

Next up...the Pack on Thanksgiving. Gobble Gooble Favre returns for his 5th last appearance at Ford Field. Can't wait. At least I don't have to watch the game on tv and hear the Favre love affair every few minutes.

The New York Daily News interviewed Eric. Read it the entire article here:
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/2007/11/18/2007-11-18_detroit_fans_not_sold_on_jon_kitna_lions.html

Excerpt:
"The fact that they weren't on TV (all the time), every Lions fan growing up as a kid had a favorite AFC team," Eric Alessandri, one of the organizers of last year's walkout, said of several past Lions games that were blacked out locally due to the cavernous Silverdome not being sold out. "Barry Sanders walking away from the Lions really mirrored the way Lions fans felt all these years. There are a ton of Lions fans in the metro area who have completely walked away from the team and are totally uninterested with any of the success the Lions are having now."

The Tailgate: Popa's Bada Bing chili was pretty good. A little greasy, and little too much green pepper, but it was very tasty. Impressive from a guy that's never been in a kitchen before.

We had the East Side Cerrioti Crew show up and pillage our food, the lovely and talented Corrie, Carmine the heavy drinker, George and Jim K. Good eats, good drinks...good times.

Joanne came through on the shots. Well done barkeep!

Jeff forgot his jersey. We are all very mad at him.

Go check out the latest photos from the Game

Lions vs. Broncos Game 4

The Lions are 6 and 2. The Lions are 6 and 2. What? Tell me what you say? The Lions are 6 and 2. Are you freaking kidding me? They need to win 3 more games out of 8 to make the playoffs!?! What?

What the heck is going on. Who is this team? Watching the game was surreal. The score was either a joke or an error. It just didnt make sense. Well the record is great. The reality is, there's still alot of time left. I'm enjoying the surprise greatly. But I will not go nuts until the 9th win. It's that simple. They really havent played anyone of significance either yet.

The tailgate - ribs. Wow they were damn good. Seb boiled them properly and no cases of food poisoning have been announced.

Joann needs to work on the next game's liquor shots. Consistency is key!

Limoncello hit the spot.

Uh oh..the bus may be coming.

Overall, while the tailgate was a bit weird because we were running late, gotta give it an A-. Good to see Bear and Randy visit the church.

Lions vs. Buccaneers - Game Three

How the Lions won this game, I'll never be really sure. They gave up a ton of yards, and Jeff Garcia (former Lion) looked like Joe Montana out there. Yet while the Bucs controlled the clock, they missed a FG and did turn the ball over at the worst times. That was the difference. The Lions won ugly for the first time in a while. That's what they need to do in order to be successful.

They actually ran the ball fairly well, and only passed 25 times or so. That's about half of what they usually throw in a game. Apparently the Redskins begging them to pass last game, was the diversion in offensive play calling for the week. I still don't get the Tampa 2 defense. To me, it's a glorified version of the prevent, with pressure up front. We shall see how it holds out. Bears on deck..that's a test!

The tailgate was another success. Jerk Chicken, along with lentil rice, and strawberry salad filled our bellies. Not too heavy, but just right. Pretty much it was healthy for a change as well.
Joanne made some super sick dessert AGAIN for the post game show, and it was to die for.

Shots of many flavors by your bartender Joanne made for interesting conversation. Sue is still thinking about it.

Nice to see the visitors stop by, the old regulars from past tailgates. No Ed, no Popa...the show must go on.

B+ is the grade for the entire tailgate. Good job!

The photos from the tailgate have been uploaded here

Lions vs. Bears Game Two

The Lions scored 35 points in the fourth quarter to set an NFL record. I said, the Lions scored 35 points in the fourth quarter to set an NFL record. What an interesting game. For most of the game all that we could think of was "SAME OLD LIONS". Yet, they managed to change the game and really turn it on when needed. A few blocked kicks, some pics, fumbles and a very tight game to start with and we had the makings of a real snoozer. Yet they won and are now 3 and 1. I said they are now 3 and 1.

A few things about the game. Roy (and now Furrey) really need to stop celebrating first downs. This is a joke. They both are very talented, and good football players. We really don't care about celebrating first downs. Anyways...it's hard to really get a handle on the Lions. Is this the real team or was it last week when they got killed by the Eagles? We are happy for the win, but it's still a bit surreal. I think we as Lion fans no better than to get too excited. The cornbread tastes good today, but we aren't going back for seconds. Yes they need a kicker. Why the hell they kicked to Hester is beyond me. That guy is super dangerous and their only real weapon and his 97 yard kick off return proved it.

At halftime they celebrated the 1957 team. They drove them around the perimeter of the field in Ford Mustangs. It was pretty lame actually. Nice I guess to celebrate that team, but they way they did it was boring. They deserve more.

The tailgate: When Ed loses at the Casino, the Lions win. So when he came back all sad, we were happy that the Lions were going to win. It worked! Keep losing Ed!. Chicago Style dogs were on the menu today. Priest Hayes was on the grill and did a fine job. Reuben & Artichoke dips were to die for. We had some Bear fans stop buy and steal some food, and impose. Not a big deal I guess...but strange no less. Someone brought Jill, and she wore a Bears jersey, that's what attracted the Bear fans. Hmmm.

We have tailgating set up and take down to a science. We can set up in 10 minutes flat, and we can close shop in 10 minutes flat. We rock!

We toasted the 57 team, without them we wouldn't be who we really are as Tailgaters and Sports Geeks.

Lions vs. Vikings Game One

Game One: The second game of the 2007 had the Lions taking on their division rivals The Vikings. You know it's important when Mr. Baxter comes to town! The Lions beat the Raiders last week, but had to win the first home game. And they DID! Yes they won! It was for the firs time in a very long time a very good entertaining game. Sure there were intereceptions, fumbles, and the struggles of a back up quarterback. Throw in 2 missed field goals, and you have a much needed OT win.

We found out that Calvin "Megatron" Johnson is a freak. They need to throw to him more. Roy played well, and the Shaun Macdonald contributed at the right time. Bell and Calhoun did a good job. The offense played well. The defense kept the team in the game, and Redding made some great plays. The secondary which we thought would be the weak link showed great signs of improvement. Granted Jackson is a great quarterback nor is Bollinger, but they tried. Adrian Peterson is the real deal. It may be fun watching him for the next 7 to 10 years in this division.

The tailgate was a B-. Food was excellent. Ed is right, you can't go wrong with Dearborn Ham. And the lemon caper spetzel that Sister Silver Rush made was most excellent. Joannes birthday pie was delicious per usual. All in all a decent tailgate, but the location was not up to par. We were not in our usual spot, as the lot was full earlier. We need to fix this and bring the tailgating back to normal levels.

No luck at the Casino for Mike and Ed. The season is still young - no worries. Next home game, will be the dreaded Bears. A tough defensive team, but we can deal with Grossman.

Enjoy photos from the game and tailgate here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/hockeydino/sets/72157602043910007/

42 Years! "I can't do that. I don't even consider that.
"It's the way I'm made."
Asked why he wouldn't quit, Millen replied: "You're given a job, regardless of what it is. You keep on working and trying to get the thing done."
Messages seeking comment on Millen's remarks were left Tuesday with Millen and spokesmen for the Lions. Coach Rod Marinelli didn't have any definitive word on Millen's future at his news conference earlier in the day.
About 1000 Detroit Lions fans held a protest during the second quarter of Detroit's last home game of the season Dec. 24 against the Chicago Bears. The fans left their seats midway through the quarter and gathered in Ford Field's atrium, where they chanted "Fire Millen" while watching the game on the scoreboard.
Detroit is an NFL-worst 24-72 since Millen took control of football operations before the 2001 season.

Final Home Game 06...walked

Chicago Style Dogs....perfecto! Success at the Casino too

Walk Out successful in getting the point out to the world. Whether is gets through to Ford, who knows? Our estimates were about 700 to 1000 people walked out. Not more, but defintely
not less. The 2 main entrances were flooded with extra security and cops (working holiday
overtime...how nice) to head off any protest. That was our count and our estimates based on
2 entrances. Peaceful as planned. Symbolic. And it was funny on the way out they handed out Lions stickers, but wanted to make sure we would take them and not trash them. Sure we took them, and wished them a Merry Christmas. No problem with the organization or employees...they've always been first class with at least me. Although I sure do miss my yearly media guide.

The stadium had a ton of Bears fans. I mean a ton. That's a message in itself is it not? The
local media saying how the walk out won't matter because its all Bear fans. Yeah well
are we probably the only stadium in the NFL where opposing fans out number home fans
and that's ok? THAT'S ALREADY A WALKOUT!

Happy Holidays everyone. Check out the latest photos uploaded. We'll see you next for
the most part. Again, as always...there's always next year!

PS. They accuse the Fords of being elitists, but they are just as bad. They act as if they have the market cornered on rational behavior.

We are not dumb enough to think that the walkout will have any effect on the Lions. That's not the point...if the media would bother to look into our motives they would understand that the walkout is meant to symbolize to the National sports scene that we aren't a bunch of idiot sheep who accept whatever the Ford family slops onto a football field. For many of us it will be our farewell, and a substantial walkout would be a collective mooning of William Clay Ford. Also, by going home early we are realizing that it is much more important to be with our families than to watch the pathetic Lions play a meaningless football game. Given the product on the field it is obscene that Lions fans end up in the stands on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.

And let's get another thing straight, we didn't specifically buy the tickets so that we could walk out in the middle of a football game...we made our mistake back in May when we paid the invoice for season tickets. Many of us won't make that mistake again.

The Detroit Lions are owned by an incompetent individual who has been incompetent his whole life. He wasn’t trusted to participate in the operation of Ford Motor Company, so the rest of the Ford family gave him the Lions to occupy his time. For four decades the incompetent old man has stubbornly made a joke of Detroit’s professional football franchise. He has all the answers and refuses to consult anyone of substance on how to build a successful professional franchise. So where does that leave Detroit’s NFL football fans? It leaves us as the butt of every joke about our team. Don’t listen to the arrogant media! Take a stand on a personal level. Even if you feel like you’re the only one walking out on Sunday you can leave with the knowledge that you know what’s right…and what Ford has done to our football franchise sure ain’t right.

Eric Alessandri
<div
make a statement regarding 49years worth of bad football. One playoff win.
Boring and unentertaining games.

When you see a bad movie, you get up and leave. When you are at an event and the play sucks,
you boo. This is no different.

Spend time with your famlies on Christmas Eve, instead of devoting your time to a team that
could care less about you. The players checked out weeks ago, you owe them nothing. They owe
you something. You paid for your tickets, you deserve more. That's all we ask from this team!

We are sick and tired of being cheated! We want good football! Damn it! The There may only be a few thousand or only a few hundred who do this, but so what. It's not about the money, the
tickets were already paid for long ago. The team makes most of their money from television revenue anyways...they are protected. The Fords do not run their football team
like a business, pro sports teams are protected by revenue sharing. It's just time to tell the Ford's we are sick of their product. We have to do something. We have to make
some kind of stand - perhaps public humiliation or embarrassment will do that. We know the old man is in a different world, but all of his employees might not be including Jr.

It's bad enough Ford Motor Co has all these buyouts and is getting their ass kicked by Toyota. We are so entrenched in the auto industry here that their football team mirrors their
business.

As for parking, we tailgate...so paying $5 to $10 a person for a few cars is ok with us. We always make extra food for the homeless and bums that walk by so at least we have some good come out of showing up. We've been tailgating and going to the games for years and we want to see some good football. It's very easy to say just don't go. We love pro football, but we want to see competitive games. Is that too much to ask for? Apparently it is with the Ford's.

To say it's a waste of a Sunday to leave early from the game, is it really true? How many Sundays have we wasted by staying at those games in hopes that they will
give us a good game and more often than not they don't?! This time we will just leave and not get the chance to see a bad game then go spend time with our families.

Look at the Lions last year, the 49ers, and the Saints. Look where all those teams are now.

Lions in the Pro Bowl

Lions in the pro bowl - NONE

Pro Bowl rosters

(s-denotes starter)

American Football Conference

Offense

Wide Receivers — s- Andre Johnson, Houston; How fitting as we cook breakfast to feast on such a great American holiday, rich and fulll of tradition...that the Miami Dolphins team bus drives past us. The bus, full of determined, arrogant gridiron hereos ready to march into battle to ruin our day.

They come in here with no mercy, unlike the Bills and Falcons who gave us a break. But nooo...all that breakfast delicacies were all for not. Sausage, pancakes, french whore toast, and mmmmbacon ruined by yet another poor performance.

Oh to be a Lions tailgater...not only do you need a strong constitution, you need a strong stomach. Because their place has surely made us sick time and time again. Today was no different.

Yet another holiday ruined. We however remain to not tailgate in vain.
